Our Story
The Richmond Improv Theatre Society (RITS) traces its roots back to Tickle Me Pickle (TMP), a performance troupe founded by Jon that became the cornerstone of improv comedy in Richmond. TMP brought laughter and creativity to the community through high school programs and their signature event, The Golden Pickle Jar, where high school teams from across Richmond competed in a spirited improv showcase.
What began as a small group of friends eager to connect and create comedy around Richmond has since grown into a cornerstone of the local arts scene. From hosting fundraisers like Laughter is the Best Medicine to developing performance groups such as TMPImprov, Extra Relish, and Bored of Directors, RITS has become a hub for improv in the city. The organization strives to provide equitable access to performances, workshops, and classes—ensuring everyone in the Richmond community can experience the joy of improv.
Richmond Improv Theatre Society is proudly supported by the City of Richmond Arts & Culture Project Assistance Grant.
